Inspired by the shoreline near Empire, Michigan, this original oil painting looks through a stand of birch trees toward the brilliant blue waters of Lake Michigan. Warm autumn yellows contrast with the cool blues of the lake, creating a landscape filled with color, depth and light.

Painted in Christi Dreese’s contemporary impressionist style, expressive brushstrokes and glimpses of the dark underpainting remain visible throughout the composition. The contrast gives the trees and foliage movement while drawing the eye through the landscape toward the water beyond.
