Mackinac Island – Small Point

Inspired by one of my visits to beautiful Mackinac Island, Mackinac Island – Small Point captures the charm, color and peaceful atmosphere that make the island such a special place.

Whenever I visit Mackinac Island, my camera is always with me. We rent bikes, explore the island, visit the shops and take in the incredible blue water and scenery along the way.

On this particular trip, I was drawn to a patch of cheerful black-eyed Susans with a beautiful old white house tucked into the landscape behind them. I later discovered that the house was a bed and breakfast with an incredible view — one of those wonderful little details you sometimes discover after a painting has already begun to take shape in your mind.

Painted in my contemporary impressionist style, expressive brushstrokes, rich color and glimpses of the dark underpainting give the scene movement and depth while capturing the relaxed feeling of a summer day on Mackinac Island.

Christi Dreese is a Michigan contemporary impressionist artist whose paintings are inspired by the landscapes, shorelines and natural beauty of the Great Lakes region.
