Studio Story

If Time Could Stand Still was inspired by a photograph I took while exploring a quiet, secluded road along the Lake Michigan shoreline in Port Sheldon.

It was a cool spring day, but the sun was shining—giving us just enough warmth and hope that summer was right around the corner. As I wandered through the dunes, I came across this old cottage nestled near the lake.

I couldn't help wondering about the families who had spent their summers there over the years. I imagined children playing by the water, families laughing together, long days at the beach and evenings when there were no phones or electronics competing for everyone's attention. Just the lake, the cottage, and time together.

As I've gotten older, I find myself reminiscing about those simpler days more often.

Maybe that's what I was trying to hold onto when I painted this—a little slice of Lake Michigan where, if only for a moment, time could stand still.
