Where Time Slows
ArtPrize 2026 | Christi Dreese
September 18 – October 3, 2026
Gazelle Sports
52 Monroe Center St NW
Grand Rapids, Michigan

There are places that seem to quiet everything else.
A shoreline at the end of the day. A familiar path through the trees. Light moving across the water. A place we return to again and again—not because anything extraordinary happens there, but because somehow, time feels different when we’re there.
Where Time Slows is a collection of original oil paintings inspired by those places and moments.
Through expressive color, light, texture, and Christi Dreese’s contemporary impressionistic style, each painting captures more than a landscape. It captures the feeling of being there.
Every Painting Has a Story
Many of the paintings in Where Time Slows began with a photograph, a road trip, a day near the water, or a moment that Christi wanted to hold onto a little longer.
Throughout the exhibition, look for the Studio Story connected to each work—a glimpse into where the painting began, what inspired it, and the memory behind it.
Sometimes the story is about a specific place.
Sometimes it is simply about a feeling.
Where Does Time Slow for You?
Art is personal—and this exhibition isn’t only about Christi’s places.
It’s also about yours.
As part of the ArtPrize installation, visitors are invited to share a place where time seems to slow down for them.
Maybe it’s:
- your family cottage
- a favorite beach
- a trail through the woods
- your grandparents’ porch
- a place you discovered while traveling
- or somewhere completely ordinary that simply feels like home
Add your place to the interactive Where Time Slows installation and become part of the story.

About the Artist
Christi Dreese is a Michigan contemporary impressionist painter whose work is inspired by the Great Lakes, shorelines, woods, gardens, and the landscapes that become part of our personal stories.
Working primarily in oil, Christi begins many of her paintings on a black ground, allowing glimpses of the dark underpainting to remain visible between expressive strokes of color.
Her work is rooted in a simple idea:
Art can change the feeling of a space—and sometimes remind us to notice the places and moments that matter.
